Diary of a flying pig: Danish Tour 10/26

A day on the town...

After another delightful yoga class with Marlene, we headed for lunch at the "Free Cafe" (or something like that), which is a cafe that's sort of a social project, where the woman who owns it hires at risk kids to work it. The service was friendly but not exactly professional, but the food was cheap and very good. Yet another delightful cafe!

At 1pm, Matt, Joan, & I had an interview with Daniel and Lotte- a couple of high school students who ahd seen the show and were doing a project on Mask performance, asking us questions abour our education, why we do theatre, etc. They were very organized and polite, and complimentary of us and the show.

After that we parted ways- I decided to do some exploring, and happned upon the North Jutland History Museum- a great collection of objects, photos, tools, art, silver, glass and artifacts from Aalborg and the surrounding area. The crown jewel of the museum, however, was its "panelled room"- a room in which all the walls, windows, ceiling, and furniture are intricately carved out of wood- I walked in and my jaw dropped- completely amazing. The room had originally been at a house down by the harbor, but was taken apart piece by piece, and reinstalled in the museum at the beginning of the 1900s. Easily one of the most spectacular man-made things I've seen here. (The woman at the reception desk said it was the best-preserved and most famous room in all of Northern Europe). After buying some Christmas presents and postcards at the museum gift shop, I headed out for an afternoon of shopping. Found some great deals, and a terrific glass shop where the glass-blowers worked every day from 11am-3pm. Show call found me 1000 Kroner lighter, and laiden with all sorts of great gifts for the folks back home. A supper of Ebba's leftover soup and some spectacular oat cookies made by Pia preceded the show.

The show went great. However, poor Malene was suffering from a horrendous toothache, and in the moments when she stepped offstage looked like she had been run over by a truck. Bad news! It's a tooth that had been bothering her for a while now, but just kicked into high gear. When they called the dentist about it, he just said to take more painkillers. Glad to know that dentists are pretty similar everywhere. They were going the dentist the very next day, to be sure.

We had a talk back after the show with a group of high school age students, who were very cute, and very shy, us having to wring questions out of them... Their teacher and a couple of confident girls did most of the asking, although they all said they enjoyed the show. Then we had some drinks with Troels in the lobby, and headed home.

Hello,
I saw your show and just wanted to say that I thought the bass player was totally hot. Did he play the pig, too?
Cheers,

The pig is awesome. His left hand position is awesome. It looks like he knows how to play bass.
