Diary of a flying pig: Danish Tour 10/28 & 29

Two days for the price of one...

Saturday, 10/28- Aalborg closing (kind of...)
After a late night of partying, Joan, Matt, & I went over to Annette & Alan's for an 11am brunch of rolls, pancakes, mimosas, eggs, bacon, coffee, tea... apparently Denmark is convinced that the way to an actor's heart is through their stomach. And in truth, their absolutely right. We feasted and talked about all manners of things with Annette, Alan, and Janni, from politics to the loss of Danish traditions in schools due to the influx of Muslim immigrants- fascinating stuff! Then it was back to the theatre for the last show of our run at Jomfru-Ane before we head out on tour. Another packed house, good audience, some issues with the mechnical workings of the cloth tubes, but otherwise a pretty solid, entertaining show! (On a personal note, I had some of my Danish relatives in attendance- they drove 4 hours to see me in my pink spandex!). Then it was over to the lovely Joan Schirle's for a post-show dinner and soiree- pasta, beers, naan, and Aqvavit, the schnapps specialty of Aalborg. We ate, laughed, talked, and even watched the first 5 minutes of a Snoop-Dogg movie Joan had checked out from the Aalborg library. Mostly, though, it was a hygge evening amongst friends. Afterwards, most of us headed home, but Oliver, Alan, and Lars headed off to the local bar. I'm not sure exactly what transpired, but do know that Oliver woke up at 5AM at the theatre.

Sunday, 10/29- Kids and Dogs!
Getting a full night's sleep due to the time change, Michael and Ebba picked up all of us Americans and headed to Viborg- the city that is home to Andrew, Hannah, Steffan, Thomas, and their brand new chocolate lab, Jensen. They live in a cute little house just outside of city limits in a rural community, about an hour from Aalborg. After ANOTHER spectacular meal- ham, beets, 2 quiches, bread, pesto, cucumber salad, and a surprise from Andrew- a fridge full of MOUNTAIN DEW!!! A blessing from the gods (and an import service Andrew knows), it was a welcome taste of home. After eating and chatting, we took an outing to a nearby authors' retreat/park on a huge lake- gorgeous! We walked along the lakeshore, climbed trees, explored ruins, chased sheep, and had a grand old time just being outside. The seasons are changing fast here- the air is cool and crisp, and we lose about 20 minutes of daylight each day. We then headed back to the house for cheese & biscuits, coffee/tea, and video games with the boys. We left around 5, drove back into Aalborg, and I'm enjoying the rest of my evening by doing laundry and communicating with home.

LESSONS FOR THE DAY
The more times you spin Thomas around in a circle, the more times he wants you to spin him.
You know the boys are in trouble when Andrew begins speaking Danish.
Joan now understands why her uncles would fall asleep after meals with the family.
