Diary of a flying pig: Danish Tour 10/31

On the road again...

A 9am call saw the tech crew back at Jomfru-Ane, loading the truck! The Danes have been touring for a while, and have really got it down- they have custom racks for inside the truck, lights preloaded on bars, so you just lift the entire unit off the grid and load it in, the works. The loading doors to Jomfru Ane are actually on the 2nd floor, so they had a winch rigged to lower things- I tried to get them to give me a ride, but they wouldn't bite. Don't they know I'm a flying professional?
Once we were loaded, Andrew, Niels, and I headed out! It was a grey, rainy day but driving was easy. we stopped at a Truck stop- very similar to an American truck stop except cleaner, better lit, and more pleasant to be in- had a brief break and then hit the road again. After about 20 minutes of driving, we came upon traffic that was STOPPED. We waited...

and waited, inching along slowly, if at all...

and waited, making up stories about why it was so backed up...

and waited, ready to go direct traffic ourselves...

and waited...

Finally, THREE HOURS LATER, we got off the highway, having traveled about 10km in 3 hours. The cause of our delay: Pigs. A pig truck had overturned on the highway (we never saw it), so they redirected traffic. I'm going to have rough words with some of my brethren over this one.

We made it into Haderslev- a very cute little town in southern Denmark- parked the truck, checked into our hotel, and then went out to eat for one of the slowest meals I've ever been served. We ate, talked, and walked back to the hotel through blustery late-autumn weather fo a good night's sleep before load in tomorrow.

LESSONS FOR THE DAY
Look out for pigs. Just when you think you've got them figured out, they go and flip a truck and delay traffic for three hours.
A hotel in Denmark that has four stars means that you either get a trouser press in your room, or bacon for breakfast (according to Constable Tristram).

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
PIG
